The Uptown Sertoma Club of Spartanburg is excited to announce it raised $59,978.54 during its first ever virtual Auction for a Cause in November, 2020.

The online event ran from November 1st through Friday, November 6, 2020.

“We really wanted to hold this event because we knew the need for the agencies we partner with is still there, especially with COVID, but we could not hold an in-person event.” said Caroline McArthur, Auction for a Cause Chairwoman.  “We decided to look into doing an auction online. It was a huge learning curve for us and a challenge for our Auction Team, but it worked out very well!”

The Club secured several sponsors including the JM Smith Foundation as the signature sponsor, and several wonderful corporate sponsors that we were thrilled to have supporting us for this virtual event, including: Aaron’s Inc., Arthur State Bank, Bell Laundry, Benchmark Mortgage, Comfort Keepers, Denny’s Corp., Excel Fire Sprinkler Company, Hair It Is, Harrison White Law Firm, Hodge & Langley Law Firm P.C., Synovus Bank, TD Bank, TNB Financial Services, and Z United Properties.  These sponsors helped us exceed our goal and made the event a huge success.

Typically, when the Uptown Sertoma Club announced the results of the Auction they presented the agencies with checks at the December meeting, however these are no ordinary times, so it was decided to create their own Prize Patrol and deliver the checks to the agencies at their locations, while adhering to social distancing and wearing masks to keep everyone safe.  It was a fun way to create excitement and reward the agencies for their work.

Auction for a Cause  benefited six local non-profit agencies; The Bethlehem Center, The Haven, SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition, Spartanburg Humane Society, Upstate Family Resource Center and Camp Sertoma of South Carolina.  These agencies, along with Camp Sertoma, have been involved with Auction for a Cause for many years to raise the much needed funds they need to help them serve the people in Spartanburg County.
